De Standaard – Gluren en begluurd worden in Brugse Stadsschouwburg

Project description:
For the youth festival URB, which will be in and around the city theater, Studio mxmxm will build a temporary installation on the forecourt. This installation consists of a structure of scaffolding lined with yard cloths that frames the square and turns place of passing-by into a place of being. The inspiration for the structure is the recent facade renovation of the city theater where the entire building was scaffoledd, but also the idea that during URB the city theater becomes a temporary “yard site” for young people where everything is possible and allowed.

The yard cloths are semi-transparent so that the silhouettes of people will be visible in a suggestive way, especially in the evening when the entire structure will be highlighted. This is a nod to the prostitution area that was previously located here and voyeurism is also the overarching theme of the festival.

The installation will be an eye-catcher to excite people and make them curious about what is going on behind the screen, but also serve as a bar and stage for music and other performances.

URB festival from 10 to 11 April, Bruges city theater
